Organization of Islamic capitals and Cities Awards 

Award Establishment

The OICC’s Award was established by the virtue of the resolution No. (12/4/ G) issued by the OICC’s 4th General Conference, which was held in Cairo, in September 1986 (Muharam 1407 H) that approved the recommendation issued by the OICC’s 9th Administrative Council in its resolution No. (13/9 C) to allocate an award for authorship in the field of architecture and planning in Islamic eras. The awards were granted for the first time during the activities of the OICC’s 5th General Conference, which was held in Amman, in March 1989 (Sha’ban 1409 H).

Later, an award for municipal projects and services was added to authorship award, and recently, an award for scientific research was added by the virtue of the resolution No. (6/9 G) issued by the OICC’s 9th General Conference, which was held in Cairo, in February 2001 (Thul Qida 1421 H).

Award’s Objectives:

  • Support the OICC’s objectives to preserve the identity and heritage of Islamic capitals and cities and to enhance sustainable development in them.

  • Encourage municipalities, owners, architectural and urban designers, environmental experts, authors, experts, contractors and heritage craftsmen to adopt the methodology of preserving the identity and heritage of Islamic capitals and cities.

  • Encourage experts and specialists to write and publish in municipal fields to enrich Islamic library with scientific researches and references based on scientific cotemporary approach and related to Islamic environment and heritage.
